Towing Near Me
Many times on a long road trip, I find myself asking the question, “Is there towing near me?”, in case of any sudden problem that I might have strike me at any instance. This isn’t a constant worry for me or something I am always stressed about, rather something I have ingrained into my subconscious the ever-rotating radar beacon of my situational awareness.
I think it is very important to always be prepared for the unexpected when on the road. Personal tools and supplies is very important as well, as in an incident, you might be stranded and waiting on that tow truck for some time. Food, blankets, and basic tools are essential to be able to endure your situation and the ever-changing elements of mother nature. Hopefully you are in an area with cell phone reception or else you will be waiting on the aid of another traveler passing by to either stop or call for help. And some instances may require you to hitch a ride to go for help or supplies. You never know what might happen so preparation is about the only thing you can take change of and be certain about.

No Towing Services on the Alaska Highway
One time I was traveling the long and desolate roads of the Alaskan Highway and my preparation saved me – turning a situation into a quick fix rather than a very long and arduous ordeal. Many stretches of the highway can see several hundreds of miles without an open gas station. I was on one of these stretches, coming down from Alaska and into British Columbia. We were about 25 miles outside the nearest town up ahead when I ran out of gas.
This “highway” was a dirt road and rarely traveled on. Regular services we take for granted were nowhere around and finding towing near me for either rescue or delivery of fuel would be nearly impossible. Fortunately, I had prepared my vehicle with supplies, including two gas cans full of fuel. This situation was quickly remedied by jumping out and filling up my tank and we were back on our way to the next town to fill up all the way. Hardly a story to remember, however, had I not had those gas cans, I do not know how long we would have had to wait for a random driver to pass us by – you can drive all day on stretches of the ALCAN Hwy without seeing more than half a dozen cars the entire time. Thankfully this was not a stranded situation due to our preparation for the trip.

Be Prepared For Any Roadside Assistance Situation
Other times you hear stories of people not being so prepared on back roads and either having to take shelter in their vehicles for multiple days, or the dangerously venture away from their vehicle searching for help. Often sad tragedy strikes those that leave, hoping to find some help but struck by the elements and fatigue. If you are traveling off the main highways in your area, chances are slim there is normal roadside assistance nearby. And very high chances cell phone service is either spotty or nonexistent.
Normal highway systems with constant traffic can usually, one way or another, provide some sort of help and rescue. If an accident, finding the police’s contact information or “tow truck near me” on your smart phone takes more than just a couple seconds. Though depending on your situation and location from services, you still might be waiting sometime for those roadside services to reach you. Then add on the time it takes alongside the road once the get there, all the logistics of towing your vehicle to an auto repair shop, and the waiting for repairs and accommodations needed. One little incident can require much time and resources before you can get back on the road. So even with breaking down in a busy and popular location, being prepared with personal supplies is still an essential part of traveling.
